I started out painting murals. I still do from time to time- it's something I enjoy immensly. I would paint these absolutely enormous paintings, but what people always seemed to love- and what I loved growing up- was the teensiest little details, the sneeky bits that hide away and then reappear when no one else is looking. It's the wonder in discovery that seems most important. I was always hiding little mouseholes and birds in the paintings, and I thought it would be better if I could stick them on quickly without anyone seeing! So it started with that, that's when I made a few stickers, and then I made a few more...Now that I have a little girl, I see the way she interacts with the world and it's changed things again. We love to bumble around the garden observing changes in the plants, in the critters, waiting eagerly for the fruits of each season. I've learnt so much already from her questions! I wanted my work to empower her curiosity and her thirst for knowledge and the connection she has with nature. The new iteration of my work is more in tune with the outside, and designed with little hands in mind. I've swapped out the old pvc vinyl for a new fabric product which is not just better for the environment, it's endlessly reusable and soft on your walls. My hope is that you hold onto the pieces you collect for many years, that you follow the seasons with them- celebrate! A primrose to mark the first day of spring, butterflies and honeysuckle as the garden warms, thistleheads and bullfinches as the flowers fade and holly and ivy as the mice come back inside for winter. Watch imaginations build in real time as you grow your collection, feeling a part of their surroundings as they write story after story on the wall.
